Microsoft and Que Publishing Partner with SeniorNet

SeniorNet Offers Free Windows 8 Classes To Seniors At selected Microsoft Stores

WASHINGTON--()--SeniorNet Centers across the country now have access to Windows 8 and Office 2013 software courtesy of a large Microsoft grant.

Microsoft has partnered with SeniorNet to offer free workshops (Introduction to Windows 8) to be held at selected Microsoft retail outlets. The schedule for upcoming classes can be found here www.seniornet.org/microsoft-workshops.html.

The classes are designed for seniors, including those who are underserved, and members of organizations such as AARP. Students who participate will benefit from a unique approach to learning Windows 8, free textbooks for reference after the workshop and the use of Surface products for their classroom learning experience at the Microsoft store locations.

SeniorNet and Microsoft have had a productive and fruitful relationship for the past 23 years. A new partner joining this teaching venture is Que Publishing, an imprint of Pearson. Pearson is the world's leading learning company, has global reach and market-leading businesses in education, business information and consumer publishing. Que recently supplied SeniorNet Centers with a valuable collection of books for instructors and classroom use nationwide.

SeniorNet is working with Que, which has 29 years of experience in providing practical advice on computers and technology, to create the right level of curriculum for the free Introduction to Windows 8 sessions. SeniorNet provides instructors, administrative staff, class registrations and certificates of completion for participating seniors.

"We are delighted to receive these generous gifts and extremely grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with Microsoft and Que Publishing," said Leslie M. Smith, SeniorNet Board Chairman, and IBM Business Development Executive. “Providing computer skills and new technology to seniors will help in tearing down the walls of isolation and ultimately enhance their quality of life".
